A chest of drawers is usually the hardest-working thing in a bedroom, and it's very often the first thing to go when a room gets redecorated. Which is a shame, because the piece underneath is normally still perfectly sound.

Upcycling is a good deal more than a coat of paint. Every chest here is restored first — repaired where it needs it and brought back to life — then finished by hand, with the handles chosen to suit the piece. Some keep their natural wood tops, sanded back and left on show. No two ever leave the same.

If you've got a chest at home you love the shape of but not the colour, send me a photo. Giving what you already own a second life is most of what I do.
